Every game drive has very interesting and unique moments, this lion and the guineafowls encounter was really one of those special times.  While watching some vulturine and helmeted guinea fowl run towards a little water puddle for a drink, a lioness showed up and this got the guineafowls really excited and alarm calls were buzzing.  The lion had her tail up, clearly sending a message that she was no threat. It was amazing to watch how towards the end of the video the guineafowl were bold enough to approach her. After the lioness finished her drink, the birds approached the water too. Why do elephants eat sand? The elephant's trunk is actually a long nose. It uses it for smelling drinking and picking stuff up like grass and twigs to eat, it also uses it for breathing while swimming. At the end of the elephant's trunk are two finger-like features which helps it to grab really small items like sand and pebbles. The sand could also work as an abrasive by helping to digest some of the more fibrous plants that it eats. Elephants eat sand which contain minerals like calcium sodium and iron which is important for maintaining a healthy diet. This elephant is using its toenails to break some particles of the soil and actually, it's pushing some of the sand right into the trunk before picking it up, it's not using those two finger like structures, it's breaking the bigger pieces and then putting it into its mouth.   A young elephant follows the wrong family. This young elephant was a little too attached to a wandering herd which had a few youngsters in it. While the herd was walking away it suddenly realized that it was in the wrong family and hurriedly rushed back trying to search for its own herd.
