Tsavo East Safari In One Day From Mombasa and Diani Beach, Kenya

Giraffe and Gazelle in Tsavo East
Whether you are in Mombasa or Diani Beach for business, a short weekend or perhaps time is a factor to consider when it comes to choosing a longer safari, a One Day Safari to Tsavo East National Park may just be the perfect wildlife safari for you.
Formed in April 1948 and at a size of over 13,000 square kilometers, Tsavo East National Park is one of the largest and oldest wildlife parks in Kenya.

Elephants in Tsavo East

Besides being famous for its dust covered elephants, the park is also known for  its maneless lions, zebras, giraffe, gazelles and if you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the rare rhino, leopard or even cheetah. Besides spotting larger game the park is also a favorite for enthusiastic bird watchers as Tsavo East has on record over 500 different species of birds.

The driving distance from Mombasa to Tsavo East is about three hours, while from Diani Beach to Tsavo East it is approximately 4 hours, all dependent on traffic conditions of course.
Since the park is not very far from the Kenya coast, the safari would depart from your hotel very early in the morning between 5:00am and 5:30am, arriving at the park gate around 09:00am where you immediately commence with your first game drive looking for wildlife until lunch time. After a quick lunch and relaxation,  the game drive continues and you begin to make your way towards the park exit to begin the journey back to Mombasa or Diani arriving in the late evening.

The typical 1 day tsavo east itinerary would look like this: One Day Tsavo East Safari

So if you are looking for a suitable day safari trip, Tsavo East would be an ideal choice considering its relatively short driving distance and the variety of wildlife you may get to see.

The Colobus Monkeys Of Diani Beach

Angolan Black And White Colobus Monkey in Diani Beach Kenya A wildlife lover deciding to spend a few days at the Diani Beach coastline will be in for a special photography treat. Its one of the few places in Kenya where one can sight the Angolan Colobus Monkey at close range. They are easily identifiable by their black face, black fur and long locks of white hair that surrounds the face and also hangs off the shoulders. Being arboreal, they generally prefer to stay among the tree branches and canopy's feeding on leaves, fruits and flowers rather than foraging on the ground.
